Cleaning and Hygiene Guides per Device

Proper cleaning of equipment after each use is required to ensure three things: respect for other users of the infrastructure, correct maintenance and longevity of the devices, and the safety and well-being of human participants involved in data collection.

For this reason, this page brings together device-specific cleaning and hygiene guides, provided in text and video form where available. These guides describe the minimum cleaning steps that must be followed after each session. Users are also required to read and follow the official manufacturer manual for the device they are using, which is available in the device guides section of this page.

EEG Devices

Sponges (Wet Sensors)

Single use:
For hygiene reasons, discard the sponges after each use.

Removal:
Remove the sponges from the sensors before storing the equipment.

The Cap (Fabric)

Preparation:
The cap can be cleaned and disinfected without removing the plastic sensor sockets.
Before cleaning, remove the electrodes (sensors), wiring harness, and amplifier.

Routine cleaning (after each use):
- Use warm water with a few drops of mild dish detergent (Ivory or Palmolive recommended).
- Rinse thoroughly with water.
- Leave the cap to dry on a flat surface.
- Do not use aggressive cleaners or shampoo.

Disinfection:
- Recommended product: Bomix Plus disinfecting solution.
- Dilution: 45 ml of solution per liter of cold water.
- Method: Submerge the cap for 30 minutes.
- Rubbing is not required.
- Do not use strong or abrasive disinfectants.

Electrodes (Sensors) and Cables

Removal:
Remove electrodes one by one. Gently rotate the sensor while pulling it out.

Handling warning:
Never pull on the cables to remove an electrode, as this may damage the wiring.

Water warning:
Do not wet the EEG connector (the part that connects to the amplifier). Water exposure can damage the device.

Storage:
After removal, store the sensors in the designated square holder.

Critical Warnings and Prohibitions

  • No steam sterilization: Do not use hot or steam-based sterilization methods. These will damage cable insulation.
  • Disinfectant compatibility: Always verify that any disinfectant used is effective and compatible with the materials.
  • Storage conditions: When not in use, store caps and electrodes in a dry place.

Cleaning Frequency

The headband must be cleaned after each use.

Approved Disinfection Method

Only Clinell Universal Wipes are approved for disinfecting the headband.
No alternative products are permitted.

Disinfection Procedure

When disinfecting the headband:

  • All surfaces must remain damp for 1 minute.
  • Wipe gently and do not apply excessive pressure.
  • Excess pressure must be avoided, as liquid may enter the device and cause internal damage.
  • In the forehead sensor area, wiping must always be done face-down.

Routine Cleaning

In addition to disinfection:

  • Clean and dry the device frequently, with particular attention to the sensors.
  • Use a cloth slightly dampened with water for regular cleaning.

Prohibited Cleaning Products

Do not use any disinfectant or cleaning product other than Clinell Universal Wipes.
Using unapproved products may damage the equipment and affect signal quality.

  • When not in use, store the device in its original packaging.
  • Between sessions, place the headband on the provided stand to prevent cable damage.
  • Proper storage helps maintain cleanliness and device integrity.
