Launch of the Horizontal Research Infrastructure of the University of Patras “Neuroengineering and Brain–Computer Interfaces"

Dear members of the academic community,

As Director of the Interactive Technologies Laboratory and coordinator of this horizontal research infrastructure of the University, I am pleased to announce the launch of the Neuroengineering and Brain–Computer Interfaces (BCI) infrastructure.

The infrastructure was established within the framework of the project “Strategic Excellence of the University of Patras” (OPS TA 5180665, FC 83593), funded by the Recovery and Resilience Fund “Greece 2.0”, and constitutes an interdisciplinary research initiative that supports collaborations among engineering, computer science, health sciences, and the humanities and social sciences.

With the approval of the Rectorate and the support of all Schools, it operates as a reference point for coordinating research activities, promoting open science practices, leveraging advanced digital infrastructures, and fostering international collaboration, contributing to the institutional transformation and competitiveness objectives pursued within the framework of the European Research Area (ERA).

The infrastructure provides access to modern non-invasive brain activity measurement systems (EEG, fNIRS) and can support research activities across a wide range of scientific fields. The equipment can be combined with eye-tracking systems and XR headsets, enabling the implementation of comprehensive experimental studies.

Detailed information about the research devices can be found on the website:
https://bci.upatras.gr/index.php/en/

The website also provides extensive training material (https://bci.upatras.gr/training/), including video presentations introducing fundamental concepts in neuroengineering, device guides, and relevant examples.

In addition, accounts have been created on LinkedIn
https://www.linkedin.com/in/upatrasbci/
and YouTube
https://www.youtube.com/@BCI-UPatras

You are welcome to follow and subscribe to stay informed about the infrastructure’s activities and developments.

In the coming period, informational activities will be organized at the level of Schools and Departments, while between March 30 and April 4 a four-day event organized by EESTEC will be hosted to inform students about the initiative.

Kind regards,

Christos A. Fidas
