EESTEC Event Presentations
The collaboration of the BCI Infrastructure and the local committee of the EESTEC volunteering group took for as an event which included both workshops and presentations in for of educational content. The workshops included coding and demonstrations of the lab's equipment in real time, allowing participants to get acquainted with the field in a more practical sense.
We would like to officially thank the participants and the organizers for their time and effort they put into our event.
Workshops and Descriptions
Introduction to EEG Signal Morphology
The process that forms what is known as brain activity, involves billions of neurons and trillions of connections between them. In this workshop, to properly explain the signals gathered from an EEG, we first isolate the behaviour of a neuron with the help of the Hodgkin-Huxley model and then abstract the concept of stimulation-frequency correlation to the entire brain structure.

Visualization as a Methodological Tool
In the search of understanding the brain activity, researchers focused on visualization techniques before attempting to give insights. In the second workshop, we delved into the strenghts of the different tools neuroscientists use to extract information, by combining the knowledge acquired from the previous workshop together with Python modules dedicated to scientific programming.

Connecting EEG with AI and ML
In practical applications of the research community, the large amount of data collected from studying the brain activity leads us to the need for AI algorithms. In the third workshop, we show how the theory presented prior can be implemented in action, by providing examples of feature extraction, offline and online preprocessing pipelines and classification of a publicly available Motor Imagery Dataset.
